Ghana international Lawrence Ati Zigi has expressed deep disappointment following the Black Stars elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.The West African powerhouse exited the tournament after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Colombia at the Kansas City Stadium last Saturday. Jhon Arias’ first-half strike was enough for the South America outfit to progress to the round 16 of the global showpiece, being co-hosted in the United States, Canada and Mexico.Having been eliminated, the St. Gallen shot stopper has described the moment as heartbreaking while expressing pride of representing his country on footballs biggest stage.Very heartbroken that our World Cup journey has come to an end. It hurts and is very disappointing because this isnt the outcome we fought for, he said.Wearing this jersey and representing our nation on the biggest stage has been the greatest honour, he added. And to everyone out there who believed in us, travelled across the world, or supported from home, we say a big thank you. Your passion gave us strength when we needed it the most.Looking ahead, the goalkeeper pledged that the squad will learn from the experience and return stronger in future competitions. We will keep learning from this experience, keep working and continuing to fight for this badge, for our country and for all of you. God bless you all.The Black Stars reached the knockout stage as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams after finishing third in Group L. Their campaign included a 1-0 victory over Panama, a goalless draw against England and a 2-1 defeat to Croatia.Ghana will now turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which begin in September, as they seek to rebuild for the next phase of international competition.
